Mom just got an nice little used 10/22 and it's tapped for a scope already, she's looking to use it on small game and as a plinker. Do you all have any recomendations for low price scope?

I have a 10/22 and use a red dot 1X (no magnification) scope on top.  I am a steel sight guy, but in this case I mounted a scope for the youngsters to plink soda cans.  The red dots are dirt cheap now from our Chicom friends.  They are great for plinking and should be good for pest removal out to the range of a 22LR.  Mine is good on batteries.  One concern is they tend to sit up higher and will catch on more things than a conventional optical scope.

Mom's used to iron sites so she doesn't need a lot of Magnification. So is this a laser that that is generated by the scope? and do you have brand or model number we could check out?

Red dot (original brand, i.e. Kleenex) type scopes look like a short stubby optical scope, but when you look through them, you just see a lighted dot in the center that is powered by a small, watch battery.  They are 1X for your 22LR, so no magnification which means it's easier to sight while keeping both eyes open.

Check out this one at MidwayUSA.com. Tasco Red Dot Sight 38mm Tube 1x 30mm 5 MOA Dot with Weaver-Style Mount Matte.  Try to stay under $40.  Some 22's have a smaller rail for the scope mounts.  Make sure you measure you rails and get the right sized scope mount (Weaver type is standard).  My 10/22 has no rails (grooves) in the top of the receiver.  I just has threaded holes that are filled from the factory with threaded plugs that are tough to get out without stripping.  Use a good tool to take them out.  The rail with the grooves bolts on with some locktite to keep them from backing out.  Yours may have grooves machined into the receiver top.  This is a lot to think about to attach a scope, but I would not want you to miss any expensive little detail.
