I belong here. I want one of those scarves. My clothing is devoted to looking respectable, but not too flashy or expensive. The goal is too not stand out or be seen as a target or an agressive threat. Good post.

My favorite articles of clothing tend to be the ones that are either multifuncitonal OR ones that do their job extremely well. Jackets and coats tend to have a lot of pockets and are water resistant if not waterproof. Shoes are solid that I could easily walk miles wearing. My favorite piece of winter clothing is one of those super thick cable knit wool sweaters from Ireland and Scotland. It's like wearing a carpet and you're never cold. Cargo shorts in the summer made from lightweight ripstop cloth that are comfortable and functional.

I have two coats that I love. One is the Filson Tin Jacket, with wool liner. It's warm, water proof and tougher than another other jacket I've had. It's snug, but doesn't print my XD.

The other is the All Season Rain Coat, with wool liner. Water proof (as long as I wax it every year) warm, and has ton's of pockets.

Beating a dead horse…I still consider myself a newbie to this site and was trying to read up on the old posts. The other replies to Ferfal's original post didn't quite fit the response he was looking for (but they were nice posts ). Now, my mindset is sometimes in a state of panic! Don't mean to be; but, watching everything go down soooo fast (Greece and the EU) and I only started prepping not quite a year ago (seriously prepping…thought I had much more time); now, my mindset is something like: I buy a pair of socks, uh-oh, socks don't last very long…better buy 50 pair!!!; or, just recently was diagnosed with high blood pressure, "Dr., can you prescribe about 10 years worth of meds for me at once?". And like I've said about the deer in our area…when they eat our landscaping, I tell my wife to think about it like we're raising cattle! My 401K if cashed out will not be enough to pay off my house and that really has me upset because a homesteading life to me is the most ideal lifestyle I could dream of (Jarhead: I really envy you!). So, if you're wondering why most people don't have a prepping mindset, I think it's because they can't deal with the stress and don't want to think about a lifestyle such as what Ferfal is living right now. My most horrid fear which keeps me prepping is the thought of, if I'm not ready, I'm going to be one of those 'carboneros' in the streets of Columbus, Ohio.

It's also possible most people don't come with the right mental DNA to be preppers. To manage it, you first have to measure it; and to measure it, you have to have a sick desire to be a data junkie; and best of all, you have to know overall where you are going (because we all know from reading Alice in Wonderland: If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there). But what works for building wealth also works for prepping for a possible economic collapse:
Unveiling the Secret Tools, Traits, Motivations and Behaviors That Build Wealth
There are four things that are part of being a planner: You set goals; you think about the means to achieve them; you use tools to keep track of progress and see the big picture; and you like to plan — it feels good to plan rather than being spontaneous about a particular domain.

It's ironic because most of my life has been preparing me for this. I have lived on this place for over 30 years, growing gardens, rasing cattle, hogs and chickens. My kids raised rabbits and pidgons and my son raised milk goats , hell we've even had pet deer. I used to break and train horses when I was younger (we still have two, one of which I will train to pull a plow or wagon this summer) )I bought equipment to work on the farm and learned to repare it. I have always been interested in hunting and guns, I'm an excellent shot with both hand gun and rifle, reloading ammo was a favorite past time of mine. The time I spent in the Marine Corps and my time in Viet Nam gave me skills that would have been impossible to gain in civilian life. Yet with all of this I'm terrified, not for me but my kids and grandkids. I pray that God gave me this life, to prepare me, to save them.

Oh Man, can I ever identify with that. My life is just about over but when I look into the eyes of my boys it occurs to me they'll never know how good it can be, and will likely know more than us how bad it can get. I'm not a big Bush guy, he started us down this hellish road by my estimation, but I've reread MW's post about Obie going to hell about ten times and can't quite post on it. The waste, stupidity and sorrow we're about to encounter grabs me by the balls and rips them out of my scrotum if I think about it too much.

It's so much worse when you believe as I do that this is all intentional and caused by a bunch of elitist snobs who think they can run the world. This follows atheism, if you don't believe in God then you have no compulsion against controlling, even killing millions of people for the greater good of mankind (them). My only hope is that when they let this jeannie out of the bottle it consums them also.
