After I get my solar set up done. I'm going to buy some bullet molds and a casting pot and start making my own lead bullets again.

Hard cast bullets will do fine in handguns jamie, but you need to use gas checks for rifles.

Yep going have gas checks for .357 mag as well. I'm going to start with .45 semi-wadcutter, then a .30 caliber for the lever action 30-30. I think for the more powerful rifles I'll stick with factory made bullets.

Jamie, I would NOT run UN-jacketed bullets through a lever action rifle. The action it too complex, and any shaving of lead could cause a malfunction.

SD I've done lead cast bullets for 30-30 before but I will keep that in mind. Maybe I just had a good rifle or a harder lead when I casted before. I thought a .30 calber mold would be good general rifle bullet l for casting and barter.

I've had good luck with bullets cast from wheel weights and gas checks in my lever action rifles. The bullets are hard and won't expand much but they are cheap and accurate when loaded to 1800-2000 fps. I use a 175 gr round nose bullet mold. You can go by most tire stores and get used tire weights for next to nothing.

So, this past weekend I took a glock 30 for a spin along with a crossbreed supertuck deluxe. What a match made in heaven. The holster distributed the weight of the pistol so well that even with an extended 13 round magazine the compact g30 rode effortlessly. I was not even wearing a good holster belt, yet the crossbreed holster kept the gun close to my 3:30.
I wore it Saturday and Sunday around the house and to run errands. At the house I had breakfast, watched the news sitting on a couch, tidy up the vegetable raised beds, picked-up dog poop, turned a wet compost pile with a pitch fork, gave the kids a bath, watched a movie and the holster did not even shift a little plus it had excellent retention. The next day I went to Wally World for some ammo and took it to the range. In the car it was quite comfortable at 3:30 on the right hand side.
The g30 is an amazing work of engineering. It tames the recoil of the .45 ACP to the point of being comfortable, accurate and fun to shoot. I used 9, 10 and 13 round magazines. I had never shot a 45 before, and I was just as accurate with the g30 as I'm with my XD-9 Standard. Whereas the recoil of the XD flips the muzzle a little to the right, the recoil of the g30 felt like a little push back, with the muzzle slightly raising a little only to fall back in place.
Prior to shooting the g30, I was considering a j-frame or an lc9 both for comfort and concealment reasons. The g30/crossbreed combo changed my mind. I no longer have a reason to compromise on caliber and capacity on account of comfort and concealment. I'd be lying if I said that I forgot I was wearing the gun. After all, the g30 is a chunky, heavy pistol chambered in .45 ACP, but the crossbreed made it extremely bearable. I was constantly reminded by the heft that the gun was on my side but it was a comforting reminder.

So I rented a glock 27 and a glock 23 (.40 S&W) both Gen 3. I was not impressed with either. I managed to keep my shots in a 4" group at 21 feet with the g23, but double taps were a little tricky. Either way the gun is a bit too big for CC in the summer.
The g27 was simply too snappy for double taps. I also had a few flyers every now and then, which I attribute to using run-down rental pistols. So over all I think I'm discarding the .40 S&W as a CCW weapon.
I would have to spend too much time and ammo to confidently clear leather rapidly and place a COM shot with the g27.
The g23 is still an option, but I'm not so sure the added snappiness is worth the marginal benefits the 40 has over the 9mm. Two COM shots from a 9mm beats 1 COM from a .40 and a flyer.
Next on my list is the LC9 and the G26. Despite all the inherent benefits of a snub, I still resist the idea of having only 5 shot on tap.

I've owned a .40cal and got rid of it. Never been a fan of the feel or the round in general.
Gallo, I think you'll be pleased with the g26. Speaking of LC9, I have a KelTec P-3AT .380 which is the progenitor of the Ruger LC9. I replaced my "beach/jogging" derringer that guys on the other forum convinced me to ditch which was a .22 mag by NAA.
The pocket pistol is not my favorite or most trusted weapon, but when I jog or go to the beach or anything where light, loose, minimal clothing is worn it beats going unarmed. Of course, in such cases my glove compartment still has my .38 snub or maybe the g26.

So I just got back from the range. Ran 200 rounds through my new G26. I loaded magazines with single ammo of the same weight. Then I began mixing ammo brands and weights, aluminum and brass cases, fmj and jhp in the same mag. Not a hiccup. All in all I ran WWB 115 fmj and 147 jhp, Remington 115 jhp, and Blazer 115 aluminum and brass case.
I'm very pleased with the performance. I'm just waiting for my White Hat holster to arrive.
Accuracy wise, that is my accuracy, I was able to keep all shots in an 8" plate at 25' in slow fire. Need more practice, but for such a small package, I think the baby glock is awesome.

The g26 is a thing of beauty. I'm going to be putting another couple hundred rounds through it next week with wifey. I've never had a problem, but I only run federal fmj through it at the range.

I order the Desantis sof-tuk for the G26. Big disappointment. The mouth stays open but the rest of the body collapses making re-holstering impossible and dangerous with a Glock. I'm returning it.
I should get the White Hat holster that order 15 days ago anytime. I'm sure that'll be better.

Gallo don't take this the wrong way as you have come so far and I'm damn proud of you. You had the ability to get out of dodge at any time and you stuck around and I get to learn stuff from you. Thank you Gallo! I may not all ways agree but you always make me prove my point and I'm glad you are protecting yourself.

Thank you, Jamie. We have a good thing going on here. Our ways of thinking complement nicely. I don't think there is one person here that has not made at least a small change in their life as a result of exchanging ideas here. The GTA is like a test lab where we can toss out an idea to be dissected constructively. Sometimes things get heated up, but I don't think we have permanently bruise any egos.

I have a fobus for my keltec 3-AT and just ordered a crossbreed for my g17.
