Lamb,
My boy will actually be deploying in August, he is currently at Bragg. Say, might you have any suggestions near Bliss for a rental that would allow his gal to stay there with their 2 large dogs? ( I don't think his young lady is made of the stuff necessary to tent it
)
I have raised Nubian goats in the past, they are good milkers if fed decent protein fodder like alfalfa.
We live about 15 minutes-20 minutes from Bliss in the desert. It is a small community, all residential (NO stores or businesses AT ALL), some houses, some trailers, some double-wides. Lot sizes range from just big enough for a trailer to 2 acres. Animals are allowed by most folks that rent out here. We rent a 3 bedroom, 2 bath doublewide on a little bit over one acre for 500 a month. I can check with our landlord and see if she has any other properties coming up.
We feed our goats alfalfa and Honey-Glo (sweet feed). None of them had EVER been milked before.The guy we bought them from keeps goats for pets and for meat sales (you buy it, you butcher it). It has been quite the adventure to convince the first doe that gave birth that the milk stand was not a torture device! The sweet feed really helped with that. The second doe is going to give birth any day now. Doe #3 should give birth the end of March, beginning of April. The first kid was a male, so we are going to butcher him out when he is 90 days old. 39 days to go!
