Train in any unarmed combat on a regular basis?
Right now I'm very much into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, though the latter is starting to take its toll on my body. I've got no unrealistic expectations about being a badass; it's for fun and fitness, but also can be quite practical when things come down to it. Right now my schedule allows for 2-3 nights in the gym, which have really be good for me in terms of stress reduction and staying relatively in shape.

I stopped training in martial art years ago. I mostly just hit the bag and go to the gym.

Try Aikido. REAL Aikido, not "Japanese style" Aikido.

I'm curious, are you suggesting that I should try it out? Honestly, and I mean absolutely no offence by this, there's no way I'd try aikido even if there was quality instruction available in my area. Not because I think it's inferior, but rather, because I'm satisfied with what I'm doing already.

Sorry, miss read. I thought you wrote as if asking if you should train in unarmed combat. Must have been distracted by my kids…um that's it…yeah…I was distracted, I'll go with that.

Kids can be very distracting.
I do know a few guys who've train in aikido and have some impressive skill. One of them is a LEO, and I'm pretty sure he's put it to the test on the job.

My son started about 9 months ago and is showing a high apptitude for this style. I think he'll end up like your LEO friend.

Cool. How old is your son?
My 18 year old trains right along side me. I'm afraid that one of these days he's going to be able to kick my butt.

I find Jujitsu/ judo in general as a great lifelong passion.
