I saw this forum mentioned on Hotel 23 and figured I would check it out. Looking around it seems to have good information which is a definite plus. I can't wait to learn as much as I can. I have been trying to study up or find certain techniques on surviving as much as I can between school and work before I have to go back to school full time. Just trying to absorb as much information as I can : ) I have been trying to do some research on creating a forge as well as gardening. I have just recently been starting to research this more in depth, not ever wanting to be one of those girls who are worthless and are just baggage. So I am preparing myself as much as I can before all hell breaks lose : )

Welcome to the "Orchard" ! We can be gruff, well most of the guys try and hold me back. You found a great spot, we cover almost everything. As you can see I don't think there are many topics out there that you can't get a few folks offering to help. Don't be afraid to post if the guys can put up with me the can put with most anyone.
Stay focused, positive and learning and you will have no worries.
Not sure what you want to learn? If it's primitive skills, prepping, gear, or a combination. You will find folks here that know something about it or can point you in the right direction.
One of these times we should go though all the posts and show off all the knowledge we get from folks sharing for free. I'll hit up the admins and see if we could add some topics, and a start here for basic info for prep.
It's just my basic info for prep is expanding a geometrical rate. I've been doing this for at least 2 years. Fernando more stuff for your book.
If you didn't hear about it ferfal just hit #1 on Amazon in the survival category. Nice work dude!! Now buy his book

I have an old blacksmithing book that tells how to build a forge, you might want to check out some books on blacksmithing.

Originally I wanted to make throwing knives and arrows/arrowheads but lately I have been reading a lot about alternate energy sources(or just energy)and being able to maybe weld and forge would help creating some of the devices for some of my ideas. I am going to start off with the basics of survival and just work my way up with something more then just an old boy scouts book (nothing wrong with the boyscouts). I already went to Amazon and got the book, just waiting for it to be delivered  If its on the top survival list im sure it is a good read.

Girlfriend, if you aren't careful you will have to fend off many passes and possible some more permanent household solutions. Hell I love Men in general as a sex and this girl is building and balancing knives. Hell boys be very polite and on your best behavior. You may have a chance. If you aren't polite I'm sure she will let you know ; and hurt you if you screw up.

We do have many folks that are very smart on many topics. Jarhead is doing a solar power and maybe an Ice house. a few others are into wall street, some others are into weaving, sewing or knitting as well as making shoes. I am used to be the smartest person in the room and I have to work very hard to keep up with these rascals.

Howdy!
Welcome to the orchard! I've seen small forges run at civil war reenactments VERY interesting stuff. If you get into foundry work, casting metals BE VERY CAREFULL spalding or an equiptment failure (like a handle on a crucible heating enough to bend) can be fatal or perhaps cost you a foot.
I don't mean to discourage you at all from pursuing that I just want to encourage you to "play" safely.
BTW You do have a great attitude and people like you with skills and a level head will be in demand after the SHTF.
