This forum has shifted from a forward thinking, positive get'R done attitude, to most of the threads are now very negative. And while I full support telling it as you see it, I feel we need to put this forum back on course.

We need something juicy to talk about, but as I see it the posters fall into two fundamental groups: those who take the mainstream position on how the world is, and those who reject that as propaganda. The former think the latter are the tinfoil brigade, whereas the latter view the former as uninformed. That limits the direction discussions can go in without politeness and decorum being dispensed with.

There is a third group….those who think for themselves knowing neither side is right or wrong all of the time. I don't believe there is one person on this forum who takes the mainstream position on how the world is with out question but there are those who take the other side regardless of the facts.

I don't have anything in mind. I just know that there was a time "We" were thinking, planning, helping each other, trying to each in our own way get ready. And lately it has been all negative, fighting with each other & ganging up with negative innuendo on other people and groups. We just need to get back to "Grab the Apple" and away from throwing rotten apples at each other and other groups. If we can't be respectful of each other, we have destroyed the spirit and unity we once enjoyed.

Economically, I'm in the camp that believes times are likely to get much worse (over the next couple of decades) before they get better. I hope I'm wrong, but I will plan for the worst and hope for the best. It doesn't matter to me what others do or believe, although I will take their actions into account in my preparing. For example, if no one else in my circle talks about prepping, I won't either in order to remain gray and not became a target of the unprepared when the SHTF.
Politically, I don't believe politicians are capable of pulling off a coup. They are only good at talking a lot. Many of our elected officials are lawyers by training, so they are professional arguers rather than practical doers. At least we have the satisfaction of knowing Richard Nixon may have been the last honest American politician:
Of ambassadors, Nixon talks 'eunuchs' and 'bosoms'
"I would say, looking at the smaller countries like Luxembourg, that Perle Mesta wasn’t sent to Luxembourg because she had big bosoms,” he said, referring to the socialite whom President Truman made ambassador to Luxembourg. “Perle Mesta went to Luxembourg because she made a good contribution.”
“As far as career ambassadors, most of them are a bunch of eunuchs,” he said. “And I don’t mean that in a physical sense, but I meant it in an emotional sense, in a mental sense. They aren’t for the American free enterprise system.”
Nixon’s frankness continued throughout the discussion. He referred to the island nation of Sri Lanka, then known as Ceylon, as a “God-awful place” and again called State Department employees “emotional eunuchs.”

Fair enough, SD. We have been misbehaving lately. It is the nature of even like mindded people to disagree, and act like experts, when it comes to politics. I don't think, however, any one here has written anything to another member that we wouldn't have said face to face over a beer. Yet, some topics need to be dropped after we've made our point and move on. So in the spirit of getting back to prepping, I'll open a light hearted topic about pets helpful around the homestead.

here i come to save the day…….
Wonder why that is? take your time MW, you'll figure it out.
all of you think exactly alike. that gets boring pretty quickly. if anybody posts any idea that doesn't fit in with the GTA communist Party Line all of you start swarming the guy like a bunch of niggers in philadelphia.
here's something worthwhile to discuss. start thinking of solutions, brainstorm. no idea is too far fetched. and i don't want to hear any s**t about the FED, or less regulations. that's all bulls**t. think of concrete, practical solutions that don't even need the government. instead of yammering on about smaller government (which isn't going to happen) think about what you can do yourself to improve our situation. put on a town meeting. be a community organizer. it worked for obama. don't talk about your preps. ask the question: how do we get out of this? how do we bring manufacturing back to the u.s.? (gradually). why aren't the wall street bank executives being prosecuted for fraud, perjury and tax evasion? get people talking. see what people have to say.
prepping can get tiresome. take a break by doing your civic duty as a citizen of this once great country. study currents. study bills that are in the house, and if you don't think they're right, call your congressman and start yelling. do you know who your congressman is? do you know what congressional district you live in?

Communist? Seriously, that's a ridiculous and obscene allegation. And as for lobbying politicians to change anything, that shows you're still 100% blue pill.

I think it's kind of a mix between 'how we prep' and 'why we prep'…I'll agree with SD in one sense, that it's been lop sided towards the 'why' but the debates have been pretty spirited; I don't think there's any harm intended.

I know I still do a lot of posting in the prep area. I think the reason is I have my own blog so I do a lot of research and trying stuff out and I can drop an idea or two here and then put it on my blog. I'm also in a very different stage of prepping this year compared to last year. I think it I went from a "If an economic collapse happens…." "to when the collapse happens, that was a big change mentally. Instead of focusing on the basics, I'm working on being more self-sustaining/reliant, and I think a lot of you have been in that phase for awhile.
I got enough food and I think I'm getting a good network built, but how do I make my house payment or pay my bills if the PTBs cut SS and VA benefits? As far as my situation is concerned the current economy is the biggest threat to me. So my focus is going to be on that!

This is a good read from a Bosnian who lived a real SHTF with no pre planning GOOD READ.

The Bosnian experience amounts to a Mad Max situation. That kind of event could happen in the United States as a worst-case scenario. I hope it doesn't.
What I'm focusing on is economic survival. I work as a freelancer, getting paid on an hourly basis by the project (much like Hollywood people get paid by the hour when they are working on a movie; otherwise, no movie, no paycheck). My clients want people who can "get the job done right" with very little supervision.
Even though I officially work through a temporary help agency (which provides a clean interface as far as IRS considerations go), I consider myself to be the CEO of my own one-person consulting company. My clients are always right, and whenever I have to do something over again (because they keep changing their minds), I get billable hours as a result.
Being in charge of my financial future this way gives me a feeling of empowerment. I believe I will survive financially no matter what happens to the economy in the years ahead (short of a Mad Max situation).

Hey, this page is great. Some of my choice excerpts:
One man survivor, no chance ( OK it is my opinion) no matter how well armed and prepared, at the end you gonna die, i’ve seen that, many times
and
I think i have knowledge now to smell trouble, you know when everybody is saying that everything is going to be fine you somehow know that is everything going to fall apart.
