There is a war happening south of our border. A quiet war, insect-like, where lives expire into the night and where those around do their best to circumvent it. It’s a war that has claimed 40,000 lives both innocent and guilty. It’s a war spreading to theUSlike fire under a bed of hay: Texas,California,Georgia, andArizona. Like the early stages of a chess game, the pieces on the board are slowly positioned strategically in anticipation of a full blown attack.

I was in America for a short visit (Two Days) in the late 1900's. I was careful not to leave anything, so I have no need to ever return.

If people did not do dope, there would be NO dope business. Solution: Test everyone in America for drug use. Kill on the spot all drug consumers. Problem solved.

you've got to be kidding me, sourdough. does this include alcohol? Rx drug abuse? medical MJ?
How about ending the Federal war on drugs, decriminilizing all drugs on the federal lvl and allowing the states to regulate its usage based on state legislation.
All this violence is no different that the prohibition era, 1920's, 1930's. Private drug use is a health issue/ moral issue not a criminal one.

That would wipe out Congress in one go. I think your solution may have merit…

Forget the moral or health issues. The problem causing most of the violence to civilians is the extortion activities: kidnappings, protection money, property confiscation, sex trade.
This is the kind of crap that must not be allowed in the US, but as we speak the bases are getting filled and no one is addressing the problem.
A suicide bomber in the middle east will make the front page in the US, but when 20 people get executed inside a bar in a city 120 miles south of the US, not a peep from the media.
Is the drug trafficking the real problem, or are there other interest, more profitable, that no one is talking about?

Reporting 20 people getting executed inside a bar in a city 120 miles south of the US would raise peoples awareness and fears causing them to demand more border security. Can't have that!

Here may lay the culprit as to why the war in Mexicois being kept hush, hush buy the US.

"The military task force became concerned that its information about arms smuggling was being compromised," Plumlee said. "From the intel, it appears that a company was set up in Mexico to purchase weapons through the U.S. Direct Commercial Sales program, and that the company may have had a direct link to the Zetas."

So are we being set up for an old fashioned border war? I'm not talking about the border war we have now… I'm talking about an insurgency-like border war. Will U.S. forces be sent in to deal with the drug lords (rebels) at the behest of the legitimate Mexican government or will we support the rebels (drug cartels) against the evil Mexican government?

If the rumors that keep surfacing are true, that the US is selling arms to cartels, then I'm sure there will be no US intervention on such profitable business.

The drug war is spreading in the United States.
Violence stalks the mountains above a quiet coastal town
The violence in these mountains has simmered for years, fueled by the illegal marijuana growers drawn to the isolation, good weather and laissez-faire culture of these parts.
Living alone in the wilderness could be dangerous if the area is also ideal for drug farming. Living in a remote small town might also be dangerous if the drug gangs establish a foothold to protect their interests.

Kudos to this mayor who is offering free gun handling classes to enable people to fight back.

Instead of arming the cartels like our government did (fast and furious) they should be arming the general population of Mexico. If Mexicans were armed to the point Americans are the cartels would have a much tougher time. The mayor should issue firearm permits to everyone in his jurisdiction.

No. They don't need his permission. The constitution illuminates this. They simply need to defend themselves. It is great that he is training those that need it.

In Mexico a citizen can own up to a .38 revolver or .380 acp for a handgun, and up to a shotgun for long arm or hunting rifle. The only requirement for the handgun is to register it at the local military post–just take it empty and give them your name, address, and sn#. Getting permit to carry is nearly impossible.
Only the federal government can sanction gun ownership, so not even a governor can't issue permits.
If you could understand the woman interviewing the mayor, you would understand the moronic stance many Mexicans hold regarding gun ownership and self defense.
Basically, the mayor said, Mexico has around '500,000' police officers many of whom are corrupt, poorly trained or overwhelmed. The interviewer said that allowing Mexicans to arms themselves for self defense would be an admission of a failed state, to which the mayor responded we have been failed for six years.
The concept of self defense as a universal right is something that the average Mexican does not comprehend.
