MANCHESTER, New Hampshire—Rep. Ron Paul's campaign called on the rest of the Republican field to drop out of the race and unite behind him in order to defeat Mitt Romney.
“We urge Ron Paul’s opponents who have been unsuccessfully trying to be the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney to unite by getting out of the race and uniting behind Paul’s candidacy,” campaign chair Jesse Benton said in a statement.
Read the full statement below:
LAKE JACKSON, Texas – Ron Paul tonight scored an historic second-place victory in the 2012 New Hampshire Primary. Below please find comments from National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton:
“Ron Paul tonight had an incredibly strong second-place finish in New Hampshire and has stunned the national media and political establishment.
“When added to Paul’s top-tier showing in Iowa, it’s clear he is the sole Republican candidate who can take on and defeat both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama.
“The race is becoming more clearly a two-man race between establishment candidate Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, the candidate of authentic change. That means there is only one true conservative choice.
"Ron Paul has won more votes in Iowa and New Hampshire than any candidate but Mitt Romney.
"Ron Paul and Mitt Romney have been shown in national polls to be the only two candidates who can defeat Barack Obama.
"And Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are the only two candidates who can run a full, national campaign, competing in state after state over the coming weeks and months. Ron Paul's fundraising numbers — over $13 million this quarter — also prove he will be able to compete with Mitt Romney. No other candidate can do all of these things.
"Ron Paul is clearly the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney as the campaign goes forward.
“We urge Ron Paul’s opponents who have been unsuccessfully trying to be the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney to unite by getting out of the race and uniting behind Paul’s candidacy.
“Ron Paul has the boldest plan to cut spending, a dedication to protecting life, and a lifelong dedication to the Constitution and limited government. He also has the necessary support to campaign nationwide against Mitt Romney.
“Our campaign is already planning ahead for South Carolina, Florida, and beyond. Soon Ron Paul will head to South Carolina to begin a feverish round of campaigning.
“Ron Paul is in this race for the long haul. And he is ready to fight.
“See you on the campaign trail.”
This would make the most since but if they drop out most will support Romney. Ron Paul is going to have a huge impact on the Republican platform regardless of who gets the nomination.
We are nipping at Romney's heels

Second place is not a bad place to be this early on the race. While the rift raft is getting sorted out, Romney is the lighting rod for all the attacks from other Republican candidates and the left. He also has to spend a lot more money to stay in first place because he can't afford to drop lest he goes into a free fall.
So long as Dr. Paul keeps the pressure in a close second both the media and Romney will have to come to the dance eventually, and that's when we'll really see if conservative America has the gut for a Mormon, mini-me version of Obama or a true conservative that advocates liberty and smaller government.

Wonder if the MSM will start to take Ron more serious now. First he was ignored then they called him a nut now he's unelectable

I did a thorough study of all things Ron Paul regarding the Gop nomination battlelast night and have concluded that Ron Paul's path to victory would have to include EACH of the following:
1) Newt, Rick P, Rick S and Jon would have to drop out before the spring
2) Dr. Pauls fundraising will have to increase by at least double
3) the economy must get noticeably worse
4) [the big one] A big scandal in the Romey camp before summer OR he makes a MAJOR faux pas during a debate or stump speech.
In otherwords, the events of the next 3 months will have to be divinely crafted.
However, as I've said before, Ron Paul's is all about the idea and message of Liberty. As a messenger, he succeeds whether or not he secures the presidential nomination [or presidency]. If he loses as a candidate, he will have laid the strongest foundation and the straigtest path for whomever takes up the cause of Liberty. I see it as Rand Paul, but we dont know who will emerge.

and there is the reason Ron won't run on a third party ticket. Rand is the only politician out there with the same mind set as Ron. Dr Paul will shape the republican platform this fall. Rand will pick up and carry on.

There are two stories coming out of New Hampshire. The big story is Mitt Romney. The bigger one is Ron Paul.

Looks like Huntsman is taking Ron Paul's advice:
Jon Huntsman to quit Republican presidential race
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.– Jon Huntsman is dropping out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination and will throw his support to rival Mitt Romney.
A Republican close to the campaign, who spoke on condition of anonymity because Huntsman had not yet made his decision public, told Yahoo News the former Utah governor informed his staff of his decision on Sunday night. He's expected to publicly endorse Romney at a news conference in South Carolina Monday morning.
Huntsman's decision comes just days after he came in a disappointing third place in New Hampshire's Republican presidential primary. The ex-governor, who resigned as President Obama's ambassador to China to run for president, had bet his entire campaign on a good showing in the state, where voters have often looked favorably upon politicians with moderate political views.
But Huntsman failed to catch fire, in spite of early media buzz about his candidacy. He continued campaigning in South Carolina as late as Sunday afternoon, where his campaign touted a high-profile endorsement from The State, one of the state's most prominent newspapers. The publication praised Huntsman as a candidate who could unite the country.
Huntsman's decision to back Romney isn't surprising, given that the two agree more than they disagree. But they have also long been considered "frenemies," with a relationship complicated by similar political trajectories and a long history of competition between their families.
The immediate impact of Huntsman's exit from the race is unclear. He's lingered near the bottom of most national polls for months, and there's no sign that he's gained support in South Carolina, Florida or any upcoming primary states. Yet, Romney's campaign is likely to cite Huntsman's endorsement as yet another sign of the party uniting behind the former Massachusetts governor's candidacy.

Politicians like to line up behind perceived winners, even if Huntsman agrees more with Ron Paul he see more political capital in backing Romney.
Even with Huntsman's Romney endorsement, many of his supporters will swing to Paul.

Mormons don't have to be reminded of religion.

Welcome to the new and progressive USA. The parties will win and you are given a false choice. You silly conservatives and Libertarians have a choice Obama and any one but Obama.
You can't vote for Ron Paul because no one will vote for Ron Paul and you waste your vote. Hell I may just vote for Ron Paul and hope he does great and watch the PTBs heads explode! Hell that alone is worth my vote.
Vote for Romney who lost to McCain in 2008 who is a Wall St., Mass. Cape codder and a compassionate conservative just like GW. and George the first . Hell what's not to vote for? ……He's got great hair!!!
The only platform I've seen from Romney is he is not Obama. and he goes to his church a bit more often.
The political Dream Team
- President:Ron Paul (Actually I like his boy Rand but he's not running)
- VP: Gingrich let him be the nasty Bull dog but SS keep Paul safe and healthy!
- Sec. of State Bolton
- Sec. of Defense Alan West
- Sec of Treasury: Michele Bachman, Rand Paul or Paul Ryan (Yes, I want to see heads explode)
- I'm not sure where to put Sarah Palin? DOJ, EPA or DHS. I'm thinking EPA would be fun.
- Condi Rice DOJ Atty General
- Next supreme court justice Andrew Neapolitano
- Press secretary John Stosel or Glenn Beck: Let's have some fun!
All I can think of off the top of my head but since the PTBs won't let anything change the status quo. Heck they have fantasy football teams. Why not fantasy political teams?
I'm sure you all can come up with a complete list that would be a good team. We may not agree on all of the choices but I bet we would agree on 2/3'rds of the choices.
It may be completely insane but at least it would be entertaining wich is more than I've gotten from the last few Adminstrations!

The MSM is still trying to portray him as being unelectable ,even tho he polls the same as Romney in a match up against Obama.
and as far as polls……Reagan (who was also unelectable) polled behind Carter almost until election day and then won in a landslide.
