If you haven't read Fefal's post on South Africa (linked above), it's a must… knowing what to prepare for is our biggest challenge: that's how human beings survive: by our means of knowledge. If we know what to prepare for, we can better use our resources to purchase and train in advance for situations that are coming our way. But my problem is this: in the article('s) listed in his post, it seems that it constantly refers to the perils of city living; and, I can understand that obtaining an income after SHTF should be one of our highest priorities. BUT NOT LIKE THAT!!! That's hell on earth living and I'd much rather live with Sourdough in the great state of Alaska then to ever; repeat: EVER, live in any kind of circumstances like that. Is anyone else with me on this topic?

Just so everyone understands, it's worse in the country. There's no one coming to your rescue there. The horrific things that happen to the lonely farms is not to be believed. I'll leave it to you to find the pix, but beware. It's not very nice. Apparently Sodomy of "EVERYONE", is the order of the day for those doing the killings.

I'm confused…in the article by Michael Dynes on Ferfal's blog

Today, for the most part, South Africa’s people get along remarkably well. Black political leaders periodically remind the white community that a little over a decade ago they actively or passively supported the violent oppression of the majority of the black population, turned a blind eye to the apartheid-era death squads and sanctioned the violent destabilisation of neighbouring black states. But there hasn’t been a hint of the vengeance that so many whites feared.

Now from the article EN linked to.

The brutality of the racially motivated murders of white farmers in South Africa, and, increasingly, of whites in general, is one aspect of these crimes. Mr. Terre'Blanche was unrecognizable. Two weeks before he was slaughtered, seventeen-year-old Anika Smit was raped, her throat slashed sixteen times and her hands hacked off and removed from the scene.

Both acts of butchery were unremarkable in Mandela's South Africa.

WTF are these people referring to the same SA ?

In the West South Africa is a politically correct narrative of races living side by side in perfect harmony. The guy from the Times isn't likely to get his stuff published without bowing to the brave new society based on brotherhood and racial harmony. If you read the times article carefully you'll notice the truth is there underneath all the happy talk shiite. Fer even went so far as to interject some truth into one of the authors more agregious assertions:

'"I have such a gut-wrenching feeling of loss? (FerFAL comment: Because you’re an idiot?"roflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflrofl

Illana Mercer is known for her honesty and complete inability to dance around the edges of PC narratives.

"Today, for the most part, South Africa’s people get along remarkably

well. Black political leaders periodically remind the white community"

If by, "Get along remarkably well", you mean imprison white men in prisons with all black populations where they're gang raped repeatedly, having their homes confiscated, pulled over and executed by police, and that's just naming a few of the post apartheid shennanigans, then yes, they do get on well.

Actually it's all in the Times article if you read between the lines. No one sleeps in "anti-rape cages" cuz life is good. over a ten year period there were 1200 murders in Soweto in the ten years previous to Madella coming to power, most carried out by the government according to Amnesty International. Since the end of Aparthied their have been 20,000 in the same ten year period, but the west doesn't seem to mind that so much.

"in the fortified northern
suburbs of Johannesburg, we have become accustomed to living behind an
8ft remote-controlled gate and sleeping in a special section of the
house with steel bars on the windows and a steel gate in the corridor,
known as an anti-rape cage. We all carry panic buttons so that an armed
response team can be summoned in seconds if there is an intruder."

Combine that paragraph with the article I sent you and tell me if both those articles are at odds?

Being from England almost guarantees Michael Dynes is writing with a PC slant and plenty of "white guilt". I have read many articles about the way the whites of South Africa were treated after the collapse of the white government. Where does all of the violence come from in Michael"s story if not for racism?

I don't think it's necessarily racism, although, it probably sounds like it and is used as an excuse. The same things go on in the black community squared. In fact the South African Government/ANC is always pointing out that the murder, rape, robbery rate is far higher for blacks. The bottom line for me is that South Africa is your typical socialist/looter government and eventually there's nothing left to steal from businesses (which is already in serious decline) and then guess who's "IT"? Being white and having property isn't going to be the most wonderful of situations.

Another interesting fact is that far more blacks are trying to flee SA then whites, which is causing problems for Whites trying to leave. Most countries have a quota system based on the numbers from a given country and in the West (the only place SAns are trying to get to) this often means that the poor and "oppressed" (clue, white and opressed will never be uttered by any Western liberal government) don't help Whites. In other words White South Africans end up with a much lower chance of immigrating to a Western country than black South Africans. The world is a very ironic place. rofl

Thhe S. African post are frightening. I did not realize it was so bad
there as well though I do know that personal safety did take a hit.

If
you read some the histories of 3rd world nations and how they came out
of the colonial era it is almost always terrible. We see it in some of
the American urban areas as well. As long as the bad guys prey on each
other in the ghetto, barrio and each other it is just fine. But as soon
as the "Elites" are attacked in their enclaves, estates or suburbs
something must be done!

This has more to do with values and
economic level rather than race or ethnicity. It doesn't matter if it's
white trailer park trash, or the reservation, the barrio or the ghetto.
Who needs the most police protection?  People in high crime areas. Who
get's the most protection? the Elites, either the cops or bought
security guards.

I think if you get any group of folks together
85%-90% are good people and only want to be safe and  be left alone to
live their lives. But that 10%-15% can make everyone miserable.

I
watch these riots and what they do is attack themselves and not those
in power. They destoy the stores where they shop, take out essential
services in their own neighborhoods, destroy cars and homes of the guy
next door.Or they torch a couple of government buildings which will have
to be rebuilt using tax dollars.

Then the rioters burn out and the PTB's never feel a bit of pain.

I
think the best way to hurt the PTB's (Powers that Be) is to take away
the money. Look at Government Motors they and the Feds thought they
could do whatever they wanted with the unions and contract law and folks
wouldn't notice. Now I don't know of any organized boycott of GM I just
know lots of folks won't buy a GM product. It's killing them rofl

I'm coming to the conclusion that these senseless
acts of violence are much more common than most of us realize
(especially after there has been a collapse).  The mainstream news tends
to report statistics (e.g., murders per 100K people) or a two-minute
story about people who were killed or raped or robbed somewhere.  But
the day-to-day grind of living in these kinds of places are rarely
covered on a regular basis.  You have to know what you are looking for
to learn about them.

The people in the South Africa story had
money and could afford security, which makes them a target of sorts.
But what about the average person who doesn't have money and has to live
day-to-day outside a well-guarded area?  That's where FerFAL's book and
blog come in (I take it FerFAL doesn't live inside a well-guarded
compound).  Being a gray man is the survival strategy — look poor like
everyone else, mind your own business, hope people leave you alone, and
have the means of self-defense if all else fails.

P.S., I
wasn't aware the Argentine economy had collapsed in 2001 (because I was
focused on surviving the recession of the early 2000s and the aftermath
of 9/11 in the United States) until a year ago when FerFAL's book came
up on the Amazon search engine.  That's when I did some research to
learn more about collapses and what might be in store for the United
States if such an event should happen here.

I don't see an imminent collapse in the United States, but the stream of news suggests there is a steady downward spiral taking place:  slow economy and tight budgets –> cutbacks in employment and social services –> increase in hungry people and criminal activity –> tipping point reached
–> collapse in social order.  Add in peak cheap oil and
hyperinflation risk from printing money (a.k.a. "quantitative easing")
and the odds of a U.S. collapse go up over time.

California's budget crisis has proved a boon for some defendants.

In a unanimous ruling, the California Supreme Court on Monday upheld the dismissal of 18 criminal cases, two of them felonies, in Riverside County because there were not enough judges to hear them.

The court blamed the problem on the state's failure to hire more judges.

I hope it will be a slow collapse as well. I just think it will be a fast one. Gosh I hope you are right and inertia will drag and slow it down. I just know the system is broken. I almost wish for a big collapse, (get all the bad stuff out of the way in one big nasty gulp). But I want more time for folks to prepare as well.

I'm loosely acquainted with a family who fled South Africa a few years ago. They saw the itshaystorm coming when Mugabe came to power, and worked a deal with a family here in Texas that allowed them to transfer at least some of what they had ahead of time, and the family here got them a place set up for when they were finally able to flee. Even so, most of what they had was lost.

The stories they told me, all first hand accounts, tales of things done just to the livestock on neighboring farms was enough to give you nightmares… never mind what was done to the human occupants. I dunno about y'all but the idea of being hacked to pieces with machetes doesn't sit too well with me.

Another thing that I've been seeing a lot of out here in wheat/cotton country is the combine crews hiring white farmers out of SA to run the combines during harvest season. The stories told hold the same theme. No one can afford to leave, and being white, no govt will rescue them. So, they sign on with the harvest crews, who handle their green card work visa stuff, and they get to sleep easy for a little while.

Of course one thing holds true. Nearly all of them have been stripped of any ability to defend themselves, and any attempt to do so generally leads to them being the one in prison with angry mobs outside screaming for their blood.

If a person was smart he'd work on getting one of these White farmers and his family into the country to work for them. They work hard and keep their mouth shut. The Boars are not complainers from my experience. They make Finns look gregarious.

And for your amusement, or at least most of you, a little story about Zimbabwe and Africa in general.

A wife and husband are sitting around in their broken down Harare Apartment building. Neither of them have eaten for three days. There is no work and no businesses exist any longer. The power hasn't worked in months. There's no heat and water must be had by taking buckets down the open sewer in back of the building. They are dressed in dirty rags and covered with blankets to keep from freezing. They've already told each other good-bye and are waiting for the end…

Suddenly the pipes start to rumble and shake and dirty water comes out of the open faucet, growing cleaner by the second. Next the power goes on and the TV says that that aid trucks are bringing around food to every street corner. The husband gets up and tries to light the pilot light on the gas heater. He's shocked when it comes to life. The wife runs down to the street corner and sure enough there's an aid truck passing out MREs and grain. The husband turns to this wife with tears in his eyes and says, "Methembe! Quick, get my Panga [machete], the whites are back!"

Did anyone watch the '60 Minutes' documentary the other day…the topic was the unemployment situation in the US, in particular: California (of coarse)…but there it was: CARTONEROS!!! A lady who had a $70,000/yr job (blew her income like so many others in the US because they thought it would go on forever); and was now reduced to her only source of income (after exhausting all unemployment and whatever other government benefits) was collecting 'recyclables'….out of the trash: out of dumpsters, garbage cans, etc. She knew what brought in the most money and was happy to cash in $30/day!!! I guess it all comes down to how you want to live your life after a/the collapse….Sourdough probablywon't notice a thing…but I can't imagine living like I am now to a situation like Ferfal/South African's/etc are living now! What kind of lifestyle are the rest of you looking for after a/the collapse?

I'm planning on having my freelancing work, along with my investments, keep me above water financially.  I've always been frugal and I'm used to a boom-and-bust income stream.  I have complete confidence in my ability to survive on the economic front (even when the journey becomes bumpy at times).

On the personal safety side, I still have to think through what I'm going to do.  If I believe a South Africa or Argentina kind of situation will develop where I live, then my preparations will be much different than if I believe only a minor increase in crime will occur.  My neighborhood is not the safest in town, but it's still much better than the worst neighborhood in town at the present time.

I'm already doing the common sense things to protect against crime (e.g., situational awareness, don't leave doors unlocked, keep possessions out of street view, gray man appearance, and so forth).  But these preventive measures will not be enough if the level of violence really cranks up due to social unrest.

I will probably become more involved in community affairs if the situation deteriotes enough.  I would want to be plugged into a larger group of people (e.g., neighbors and community leaders) so that I would have people I could call on for help.  In turn, I would want to help out where I could offer assistance to others.
