Considering the modern survival mindset which -I think- most of us espouse, going out shopping or going out at all on Black Friday is a really BAAAAD idea.

If some people are willing to use pepper spray to get their hands on a tv, imagine what they will do to get their hands on food for the table.

Excellent point, Gallo. It really goes to demonstrate that if 1-2% of the population will act this way on Black Friday over a matter of $2 DVDs or $70 blu ray players, what percentage of the populace will act this way over diminishing grocery store shevles, sparse gasoline supplies or zero ATM/ bank access to their money?
And to what length will the sheep dogs (us) go to defend and protect our family and property?
I desire NOT to be tested, but I am resolved to weather the storm and even thrive.

I think this will end up being a fizzle. Earlier this year the retailers started pushing Back to School sales in July. All it did is pull sales from Aug. to July and Aug. sales were down.
I'm begining to think that is people's reaction to inflation. Get a hard asset before the price goes up. Now I may think they are getting the wrong things, but this is a classic behavior because of inflation.

Is S&W 686 count as a hard asset?
I agree with you Jamie. Inflation has been hitting us at the tune of 20 to 30% annually. I see it every week at the supermarket. Retailers have gotten good at disguising the mark-ups. Likewise, durable goods have started to go up quickly. For a long time, durables were depressed, but they have taken off, too.
I think gold and silver, especially silver, had very good run. Both have found their floor now for some time. I think they are poised to go on another run.
