Just putting this out there as information that could make a toothache more bearable. I used this again last night on a little fellow with a swollen jaw and a toothache (we will be taking him to the dentist today). The poor little guy was crying and Tylenol a hot washrag and snuggling with Pop wasn't helping.

A few crushed cloves mixed with a little honey for flavor (supposed antibacterial properties as well) applied to the affected area of the mouth and he stopped crying in SECONDS and was asleep in MINUTES. This is an analgesic for tooth pain. Cloves will cover the tooth pain but you still need to seek treatment as it does nothing for the actual problem EXCEPT remove the pain. Stopping the pain is actually a pretty big deal in my opinion.

I've used it too on myself (wisdom tooth), but my dentist warned me that it burns the gums and creates longer term pain once the relief wears off. As a short-term, quick fix I think it's probably a good option though.

I've used clove oil for toothaches as a kid. I didn't notice it making the pain worse after it wore off. But by then I was at the dentist or the baby tooth fell out.

Another couple of adult remedies are holding vodka in your mouth against the tooth or an aspirin against the gum.

Advantages is the alcohol in the vodka deadens the pain cleans the area.

Aspirin also can help with the pain and any swelling. But tastes awful rofl

Bad side effects of both aspirin and alcohol can lead to more bleeding. Thins the blood and inhibits clotting.

Makes getting some oral-gel or the equivalent a good idea. Especially if you might have a teething baby around. I'll have to add these items to the shopping list.

Thanks

Cloves do well but Vicoden works better. rofl The important thing to remember is its a stop gap measure, nothing that will help you long term. In three cases I told people to do this (always on a weekend) and the pain, along with the desire to see a dentist, was gone by Monday. In two of those cases things got so bad that the tooth in question had to be removed. It will work well for a bit, but obviously pain means there's a problem that needs dealing with. However, it does an excellent job of stopping the pain.
