I know this has been talked about a couple of times of having a get together for everyone and I'd really like to make it happen.  I lost a freind I was hoping to meet in person beacuse I put off the trip for all kinds of reasons and I don't want to do that again. Plus it would be a great test of most everyones bug out ideas and a chance to meet and have fun as well.

So I thought I'd post some of my ideas for a gathering and perhaps a time and place and see what you all think….

I'd rather not visit the SE, USA in summertime but fall is good for me. I can't take the heat and humidity at the same time.

I'll offer my place in Idaho as a spot if anyone wants to travel up here and take a look around or make it part of vacation trip. But space is somewhat limited at my place. But I think I have a couple of work arounds.

Something more centrally located in the USA with plenty of parking spots for camping and RV's maybe better.

Think about money costs and if you are busy with harvesting and putting up a garden or job. I'm thinking about 3 days at most for anyone to have to put up with all of us. rolleyes

Having some events to keep everyone entertained and sharing skills. Boating, shooting, BBQ or smoking meats, sharing recipes and gifts for the host or hostess that put up with us!

Some simple rules that make it easier for cleanup and making the place is the same or better after we leave.

Or maybe a few smaller gatherings in each region would be better?

Please add your ideas on how we could make it happen.

I'm going to think about this for a couple days and I'll report back. Love the idea…

I'm all for meeting in North Texas, but I may just be a little biased.  Jedi also lives in this neck of the woods.  Likewise, I have spare bedroom for someone wanting to travel here.

Jarhead's place could be about the most central location to all the members: this could be MW's dream come true eek!

I know we expect major disruption in the economy and high costs. We may not be able to do a full blown gathering and settle for touching base with folks or a regional thing. If we can afford vacations to places you may need a stopover spot or what ever… and some states don't exactly have open arms for folks that are self-reliant.

Perhaps based on weather we could do a west regional in the summer and an eastern regional in the fall. While great country to see in the east your humidity "sucks rocks" in summer time.  For me everything east of the down slope of the Rockies is east including the mid-west.

Maybe you could massage it a little too, I always seem to get crink in it when i read your posts!yell

I like the regional meet-up, east/ central/ west. I would not want anyone to host the event at their home, but at a campgrounds or other venue. I must say, for the East Regional meetup, Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge is quite nice and there are cabins and campgrounds that are awesome. Plus lots to do for familes: Dollywood, Obergatlinburg, Smokey Mountain Knifeworks, Ripley's Aquarium, etc.. That is if families plan on coming along.

Idaho sounds good for West, since Jamie knows the area.

Central could be Jarhead's area or North Texas.

We are not that many to break into regions.  I rather we all make the effort to meet in one place.

Gallo I was thinking fuel costs as far as going regional. I figure to be safe I should have about $1600.00 for a buffer for fuel costs going to Texas. That may not be a lot of money to some folks but it's a month of income to me and what I live on.

I'm not whining what is, IS and can't be redifined. I'm working to have enough cash on hand to have a meet up. But if that doesn't work out I want a back up plan. I'm sure I'm not the only one that the gas prices and enonomy has smacked around and if you are just getting by a long road trip maybe contrindicated.

I don't mind folks doing a litlle saving to make th "gathering" happen. But I'd hate for someone to be hurt financially.

I think that on such a long trip, if we were to do it in Texas, flying would be cheaper. I'm game for any location.

If we wanted a central location, a state that most closely represents our views and somewhere almost every airport flies to, then Texas is a prime candidate. Also, Jedi is our founder and he is a Texan.

If only one location, I vote Texas.

I refuse to fly. If I'm gonna get groped I expect at least a dinner and perhaps a movie. I'll drive and see the country over a couple of days. That way I can carry a gun or two and go where I want.

Jamie you need to sell that motor home and get a camping rig like mine. It gets about 45 MPH pulling the trailer.rofl

Jarhead I had 2 HD's a hugger and a softail. Lost the softail when I got sick and traded the Hugger for a boat. I can't ride a bike safely so I gave them up. Though it's a pretty bike and set up.

The RV is a good old beast and gets good milage for an old 1976 460 Ford dragging all that weight. I always over estimate costs and a meetup in Sept. or Oct. is doable for me. I just wanted to give folks some options and see how it might work out.

Some folks may be able to afford only a tank of gas or 2 for a vacation, or have plans to visit some place this summer. I just wanted to float the idea for folks. I could probably support up to 4 RVs and I got a couple of rooms/beds for flyins to Boise.

I hate to hear you can't ride anymore jamie….that would be hard on me. I had my back broken in two places and

for some reason I can ride farther on a motorcycle than I can in a car…..just lucky I guess.harley

I think my biggest concern will be fuel prices! There have been forcasts of $4.00+ a gal. gas for this summer.

If the PTBs go for war to distract folks it could be a lot worse for fuel prices.

But I'm going to work on it and start adding fuel to the RV. I found a store that has real 100% gas for sale. I'll have

to add 5-6 gallons at a time, but I'll have everything topped off and my fuel cans filled again by the end of Feb.

I've heard some people talking about $7 gas if open war breaks out with Iran. Who knows. I keep 15 gallons non-ethanol gasoline in reserve. Its enough for 1 full tank in my 4x4, or about 300 miles worth. My wifey's car gets about 37mpg, so that will help for longer trips.

Keeping the tanks topped off helps, too. I try not to let it fall below 3/4 tank.

I've got some maintenance due on my truck too, tires and brakes.

If gas goes to 7/gal, I'll start asking for a fuel allowance at work or telecommute.
