Well, I did not want to let this day pass without posting something about this event that changed the world. Few events in a century mark history as Before and After. 9/11 was one of those events. The 21st century began with a paradigm shift in regards to the US involvement in world and in the lives of Americans. Ten years later we remember those who died. There is a generation growing up now that have known nothing except the world after 9/11.

September 11 was a blow to America, to the world. We have not recovered, yet. Not from the attack, the material loss, or human loss, but from the loss of liberty. Let's remember those who died 10 years ago, but more importantly let's not forget how our lives were Before 9/11, Before the groping at the airport, Before traffic cameras at every intersection, Before the police state. We are the only witnesses left of how things were Before. Let's remind those who came After of how it was.

I remember July, 2001 when there was a G8 economic summit in Genoa, Italy that was being attended by President Bush.

The Italian authorities are bringing in surface-to-air missiles to boost security for next week's G8 summit in Genoa. The port city is being turned into a huge security fortress, with military aircraft and naval ships on alert, and armoured vehicles, bomb disposal squads and thousands of riot police on the streets (Missile defence for Genoa summit).

The American media reported on these security measures with a bit of amusement.  I kept thinking how lucky I was that the authorities over here in the United States didn't go to that extreme level of precaution. The idea that someone would hijack an airliner and fly it into a building seemed absurd at the time.  Then 9/11 happened two months later and the world (and my thinking) changed.

BTW, I was so fixated on 9/11 at the time that I didn't realize an economic collapse had happened in Argentina in December of that year until I saw FerFAL's book on Amazon in 2009 and researched the book's background.

Good post Gallo! It was a "deep event" that has made the world a worse place by far and that has made a lot of wicked men very happy who desired, to put it in their own words, "a new Pearl harbour Event" as a pretext to advance their aims.
