With upsurge of Big Brother is watching the internet I've been looking at ways to stay private and do more creating a private network at least.
I am finding some interesting information on a Mesh network that uses Wi-fi and combination of smart devices that create a new network to access the internet.
I'm wondering if anyone might be interested in having an equipment list and some ways to build a small network of LANs and WANs that are local and secure.

My daughters house is about 500 feet from my house. I've been wanting to add her on my network but I'm not sure how I could send a wi fi signal that far. Her router shows up on my list of available networks but the signal is to weak to connect. My barn is about half way between her house and mine. I've though of putting a router in the barn, maybe then the Wi Fi signal would reach both houses.

I don't know if this works or not because I haven't tried it myself. But if it doesn't work, you are only throwing away pennies.
This is a quick and easy way to get more range for pennies.

I moved my router to hang on the wall and placed a piece of tintoil behind the antenna. We went from a poor connection and a couple of bars to a very good connection bouncing between 4-5 bars.
I think Amazon sells a booster ant. for about $80.00 and it is supposed to increase the range up to a 1/4 mile.
