I thought I would put this out there and see what the GTA community could do with it. I'd like to have a section that will allow members and guests to quickly access resources for whatever it is they need. I want to keep the resource list as clean and uncluttered as possible.
Ideally, if you have a resource, list it and provide a link. That's it. If you think your resource requires a description, keep it brief. If you would like to add a comment/review about the service provider, that's fine. Try to keep it short and to the point. I don't want people to have to read 5 paragraphs of text to find the resource. The more first-hand experience you have with a particular resource, the better. Searching Google for a particular category and adding all the links you find, but haven't used yourself, won't help anybody.
I have added a couple of categories and resources as an example. Submit your category ideas in this section and, if it sounds like a winner, I'll add it to the category list so that everyone can start adding their links.
If you have ideas for how to improve the resource list, post those here as well. Further down the road, I'd like to localize the resource list as much as possible.(We might could do it now, but let me know what ya'll think) We could have a 'National Resources' section for places that provide a nationwide service. For a more local approach, we could separate the resources based on the state and, eventually, by the city.

Maybe Education such as Home schooling or free on line classes.
Also we could have a practical education spot and move a few of our topics or posts like the brewing beer, Raised bed gardening, lasagna or raised beds. Maybe a food preservation put into practice or baking bread if folks don't mind doing a step by step post. Getting them in one spot rather than spread all over. A lot of forums also have a "Start Here" for noobies in prep/ survivalist that covers some basics and the mindset needed.
This could clean up the forum and make finding stuff a little easier.
Sorry to say sometimes I do post in stuff in the wrong spot because what did you do today really can cover everything. Not so bad when we were small but if we can we may want move some post to different more relevant topics.
Do we need to look at adding tags? I suck at that and almost never think to do it.

I see this forum as Never appealing to the masses. Nor would I want to see that happen. I have never searched for archived information on this forum, mostly because largely what we talk about is "Time" sensitive. This forum is NOT for virgin preppers, this forum deals more with the abstract than the concrete. It is like a think tank of cutting edge thinkers prepping primarily for economic upheaval. This is a extremely diverse group of adults who oddly get along very well without any direct supervision. This forum is more like the faculty break room at a junior college. Not personal Jedi, but why "fork" with what works just fine.

For the majority of the forum, I couldn't agree with you more SD. However, I can't think of how many times a GTA member has mentioned a resource that I thought would be really useful, but I get busy doing other things and, before long, I either can't remember what the resource was and don't have the time/desire to go searching for it in an attempt to remember.
For that reason, I thought it would be a good idea to start pooling these resources in a central location. Not the discussions, but just the links to the various resources in an organized, easy-to-locate way. Even though our topics are often time sensitive, many of the resources mentioned are not. We can organize the resources over here without impacting the free flowing nature of the regular forum discussions.

Well, I have a lot of interest in Welderness Survival, but most here are more interested in Urban Survival. So I just do my Wilderness Survival elsewhere.

Perhaps a "Natural Disaster" section makes sense, where severe weather might include hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, and snowstorms. But topics such as earthquakes and volcanoes might also be included, since these also cause disruptions to our daily lives and require survival preparations. When nature wants its way, it usually gets it.
There are quite a few volcanoes in the continental Unites States, for example (http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/, http://www.maar.us/active_volcanoes.html):

Glad to see you back SD
I think you're right about this sites appeal, it's unlike any site any where and that's what makes it special. That said a couple of new categories couldn''t hurt nor could adding tags.
I like you idea too JC but this map is more pertinent to me.

As of this afternoon, there is now a severe weather sub-forum. If y'all want to add anything else, just let me know.

Sorry it took a few days, but I've added "Alternative Energy" under the 'Gardening, Raising Animals, Homesteading, etc' forum.
